We are looking for a Business Development Manager to join our growing team! They will be responsible for driving our Events Service offering for our global clients. We are proud to have 70+ Lions (keynote speakers) who drive emotion and culture change in the workplace through sharing their inspiring stories.

Our Business Development Manager will act as an agent between our Lions (speakers) and new and existing clients; understanding the clients  needs and how our Lions’ stories can support one-off keynote events or to develop a long term series of events. A successful candidate would have experience in business development and an ability to build strong and lasting relationships with clients.

Our Events Services range from Keynote speakers, After Dinner Speakers, Event Hosts, Panel Events, Corporate Entertainment and more. By fully understanding the stories and speaking themes of our Lions, you’ll be placing the Lions (speakers) in the right companies by understanding the company’s needs and goals. We pride ourselves on delivering some of the most powerful and engaging events that are inspiring and drive action.

What does the role involve? (Responsibilities + Duties)

  • Handling inbound client enquiries
  • Analysing client needs and matching the right speakers to support clients in a powerful one-off event or a series of events
  • Fully understanding the speaking topics of our list of speakers to find the most suitable match for our clients
  • Strong ability to convert client needs into a ‘closed sale’
  • Cross-selling other TLC Lions services by working with other members of the sales team
  • Growing the new business pipeline, seeking new industries and organisations to support
  • Working closely with our Marketing Team to generate new leads, client enquiries and converting them into new clients
  • Working closely with our Accounts Team to ensure the highest level of client service throughout
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining our CRM system
  • Working to and achieving monthly targets
  • Develop close client relationships to drive repeat business
  • Have a full understanding of your buyer; Head of Events, Wellbeing, Head of DE&I, to understand their current and future needs
  • Working along our EMEA/USA Sales Directors to identify wider client opportunities that cross over from events/meetings through to the L&D/training space
  • Become a strong advocate and voice for the TLC Lions brand on a global level
  • Possible management responsibilities for members of the UK team as well as training and supporting others as the company grows


What are we looking for? 

  • Previous proven sales experience, including prospecting new clients and retaining existing clients
  • Track record of achieving / exceeding monthly targets
  • Ability to learn and understand the stories of all speakers (Lions) at TLC Lions and translate them into linking to the goal for a client
  • Ability to build rapport with clients from all backgrounds and industries
  • Extremely competent in juggling several tasks at once and can ruthlessly prioritise according to the company’s needs
  • Self-motivated, self-starter, and pragmatic – able to turn ideas into action “entrepreneurial mindset”
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Excellent IT and presentation skills to create and deliver compelling proposals and concise emails
  • Efficient with limited resources and able to find solutions at pace
  • Receptive to feedback delivered in real-time and being able to make swift changes based on this feedback
  • Enthusiastic, energetic and results-driven
  • Excellent SPG (Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar) – which is in our DNA!

2+ years experience in Business Development & Sales

Ideally previous experience working in or with large global corporations 

Experience in or a desire to work in a high performing, fast working startup environment

Salary: Competitive (experience dependent)
